Lamborghini's latest sculptural masterpiece

Now I'm not one for "engine porn" as they call it, but the new powerplant for the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 looks like a fantastical weapon to be carried by a Gundam. It's just beautiful and hyper-futuristic. The same words apply to the car itself which, though stylistically extrovert as only a Lamborghini can be, is so well proportioned and full of refined details it really blows me away. I know many people might consider the new Aventador vulgar, but I think it's probably the most avant-garde thing happening right now in car design and it makes Ferrari's FF look positively declasse in comparison. Sure it could be a little simpler and more restrained, but I kind of love the fractured surfacing that gives the car such energy. It's like the took all the good things from the outlandish Sesto Elemento show car and applied them with a more production-oriented sensibility. Bravo Lamborghini! Bel Lavoro!

The Aventador leaves me a little flat from pictures. It looks like a hard-edged LP640 and Countach rolled into one. I want something more radical from Lamborghini - the Miura defined a generation of road cars - why can't Lambo return to the days of absolutely insane cars that push the envelope rather than recycle it. That said, I do think I'll like the rear of the car with the concave shape of it.
This isn't insane enough for you, Murph? I think 30 years from now, we'll look at this car and the Reventon and other Lambo concepts and say, wow those guys were pretty bold and really did their own thing!
Also, the Sesto Elemento concept was as radical as can be, man! That thing was batshit crazy!

I will concede the Sesto - I liked that a lot. Modern Countach with less weight! I especially liked the rear of that car.
However, I will fault you on the Reventon - that's a marketing gimmick car. It's "aircraft-inspired" interior and exterior are a justification for selling an LP640 at the price of a Veyron. I honestly think the guys in Sant'Agata were mad they were no longer selling the most expensive cars in the VW Group and cooked that car up. Otherwise - why not save like $800,000 and get the wonderful LP640 and not have silly aircraft gauges?
the FF looks completely irrelevant, from where i'm seeing things....i agree, i think the Aventador is very very interesting----way ahead of the times....those sharp lines and angles blended with subtle curves are unlike anything else out at the moment...i'm saying this from the mind of the 7 year-old who used to hang Countach photos from my wall.
