Automobiliac Video of the Week: Le Mans - Just the racing scenes

This week's delectable time killer is a really well done compilation of all the race scenes from Steve McQueen's immortal movie Le Mans.  I assume most of you have seen the film, so I will spare you the plot summary.  Just watch and enjoy the sounds! God I wish I had been alive to see these cars in their heyday.

Great stuff. Much better than watching today's LeMans racers because these look so much more like real cars. Better yet: go back to the early fifties / late sixties when the cars were much closer to the Jaguars, Ferraris, Porsches, Astons, etc. that one might see in a showroom or even on the road if one were lucky enough.
I drove around le Circuit de la Sarthe back in 1960. Even though I was only driving a VW bug, it was thrilling just to know that I was where all that exciting action had taken place over the course of so many years. The following year, I watched at the Mulsanne straight for an hour or so early Sunday afternoon when few cars were left. It was actually rather boring. Film clips like this one are better than the real thing, except for the noise, and even that begins to wear thin after a while.
Still the world's greatest, most important race. Thanks.
