Happy Chinese New Year: Chinatown 1977

Another new years time warp shot! This time it's a 1975 Pontiac Grand Prix on a snowy, trash-strewn Chinatown street. It sure feels like the 70s, doesn't it?

And what the hell, here is a Ford GT40!
Small and boxy, the Renault R8 Gordini made an unlikely-looking racecar, but this single-marque series was a very popular stepping-stone series for French drivers in the late 1960s. There were so many aspiring competitiors lining up to participate in the series that the organizers had to set up run-offs to limit the entry size down to 40 drivers, from 387 applicants in 1970, according the the back of this card. The evenly-matched cars provided for splendid close-quarters racing, as shown in this action shot!
Frequent commenter Murph was kind enough to send me his spectacular set of photos from his trip to the Daytona 24 Hours. I have curated my favorite 20 shots from his extensive Flickr album, which can be seen if you click the images below! I am really partial to his pit and garage images, which really capture the atmosphere and intensity of the races. Thanks, Murph!

There's such a great nostalgic feel to this old Lotus Europa photo. I have whole shoeboxes at home of snapshots like this from my childhood Kodak Instamatic.
