Video of the Week: Over 8 Minutes of Vintage Racing Sexiness at Monza

I found this gem of a video in the dark corners of youtube and am thrilled to share it with you (only has 176 views as of now!).  There is so much absolutely fantastic footage of the Monza Historic Races from 2010, both on-track and in the pits.  My favorite part are the awesome powerslides you can see as the cars exit from Ascari and head down the backstraight to Parabolica. Simply magical!  Also, the low drag E-type Lightweight Coupe is pure sex on wheels.

And Now for Something Completely Different: APE Drifting!

From the sublime to the ridiculous: I think this is Italy's equivalent of a redneck sport! I kind of love it! For those of you unfamiliar with the APE, it is essentially a 3-wheeled Vespa with a fully enclosed cabin, and a small pickup bed or van back. It's commonly used in Italy by tradesmen and deliverymen. And naturally, if it has wheels on it, the Italians will race them!

News Flash: F1 Car Runs on REAL racetrack!

I've been turned off of F1 for years because of the increasing number of Mickey Mouse expansion circuits with acres of gravel traps and no elevation change that have become so prevalent, combined with the neutering of formerly great circuits like Monza, Silverstone, and Spa.  Let's not even dwell on the elimination of places like Zandvoort, Brands Hatch, and the Osterreichring from the calendar entirely many years ago.  But this video was a true breath of fresh air! Here we see Jenson Button driving his McLaren F1 car on Australia's immortal Mount Panorama circuit--the first time a GP car has turned a wheel on this legendary course.  Naturally, he shattered the lap record.  Enjoy the sight so rare these days of an F1 car going over crests of hills, hitting actual bumps, all with real trees nearby the circuit. It almost recalls a bygone era...

Adams Probe 16 - Space Age Joyride!

Every wondered what that crazy sports car from A Clockwork Orange was??  Well, it wasn't designed for the movie!  The car's name -very fitting if you've seen the film!- was the Adams Probe 16.  Designed and built by the Adams brothers, who were engineers from British constructor Marcos, the car epitomized the wild, low-slung look of the space age.  The driver and passenger recline as low as an F1 driver of the era, with the top of the car sliding open for access.  The whole business is only 3 feet tall - perfect for looking up the miniskirts of admiring ladies as you cruise by with that inline 4 buzzing away behind your head!  Beautiful from some angles, hideous from others, the Adams Probe 16 definitely is a time capsule to an era when cars were far more outlandish, adventurous and fun than they are today!  There are supposedly only 3 examples in existence. The Orange one below belongs to collector Phil Karam.

Elf Scan 12: Matra MS 630

The V-12 powered MS 630 was Matra's first serious Le Mans contender. Campaigned in the tumultuous year of 1968, which saw the 24 hour race moved from June to September due to labor and student unrest, the MS 630 ran as high as second place before retiring due to a puncture in the 22nd hour!
